I wear a lot of hats!! I absolutely love hats, from fur to casual to fishing to glam! Yes, Marie Kondo I feel ‘joy’ for all of them and that is why I keep them. They are organized and serve a purpose to keep the sun out of my face and help me achieve my complete daily ‘look’. I do care how they look because I love my own style.
With my own style it’s a balance between function and fashion. With most objects I own I ask myself, why do I need this object and do I love it? There are several reasons I would love it, mostly because of where I picked it up, how it makes me feel or simply because it enhances my style.
When I buy a new object, it first needs to serve a function and secondly, it must be attractive. I will admit, I’m like most people and am attracted to beautiful things. Now remember, first lesson to finding your own style is, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”.
Once I learned this lesson, I was empowered to become my true self. I started to accept my inner voice and listen to what I liked. I was able to find power in my own clothing choices. I stopped looking at what others were wearing and didn’t try to conform myself to fit into mainstream fashion. It was like I broke loose from my attachment of trying to fit in. I didn’t have to wear cookie cutter outfits anymore and was able to created my own outfits from objects I loved.
If you only wear what ‘you’ love, then you will get a new attitude of, ‘I’m owning what you wear’. Meaning you don’t care what others are thinking or saying about what you’re wearing. This new freedom will empower you to ‘finding your style’.
If you are hoping to ‘finding your style’ I’d love to share with you how I found mine. Finding your own style is a process of realizations, reflections, surrenders and empowerment. Over the next couple of posts I will walk you through ‘finding your own style’.
Yes, start purging your closet because it does start with feeling ‘joy’ for each object in your closet. If you’re overwhelmed by this idea, start by watching Marie Kondo’s inspiring Netflix series ‘Tiding Up’! Remember, it’s one step at a time! Not only will you find your style, you might just find yourself!
