When I think of dressing for summer I think of cotton dresses, sandals, white, big sunglasses, wearing hair up, floral clothing, shorts, tank tops, coverups, floppy hats, baseball caps, flip flops, canvas bags, capri pants, wedge Toms, bikinis, white T’s, painted toes, and tube tops! Yes, I was born in the 70’s! I love a little romance mixed with casualness. I’ve always been inspired by girly girl meets tomb boy meets preppy meets classy pants. You can make these combinations happen all summer long!
I recently attended the 11th annual “Benefit by the Sea” for Crossroads House in Portsmouth, NH. Crossroads House provides a safe, transitional shelter and program that helps its residents move with confidence to stable and worthy housing.
Again, it was an impressive event of beautifully dressed people and pretty touches all around. As I looked around, some were dressed in formal black tie and others in slacks and the ladies were mostly in cocktail attire with some being more or less formal. But in the Seacoast area, really anything goes.
Last year I was in a long form fitting dress, so this year I went for a short babydoll dress.
Hair by Salon Sabeha
Wore a large pearl ring to pick up the small pearls in my necklace
Compared to last year, this look felt much more casual. Last year people were really drawn to my dress. I like to mix up my looks, as it’s part of my creative process. Really who cares what you’re wearing to such a well deserved cause. Overall, what a hit!
Bright Lights Big City Gala at the Ritz-Carlton on Boston to raise money for Jaden’s Ladder. This foundation is very special as they aid women and children move on after being in a domestic abuse life cycle. I was honored to attend this event and with such a classy location, you can wear that sequence dress, big bold sparkly necklace, all under a gold coat!
Dress by Tory Burch, necklace from Fashioneta, coat by Burberry, and glasses by Tom Ford. Went with dark blue nails, gold and black earrings, big curly hair and black shiny shoes. What a fun way to support a well deserved cause.
Denim jacket by DKNY Various necklaces piled up
‘Ardell’ Fashion Lashes
‘essie’ ‘good as gold’ and ‘Revlon’ ‘Hearts of Gold FX’ nail polish. Two coats of essie & several of ‘hearts of gold fx’ polish. I made sure no hearts got on as they are so big.
Shoes by Alfani. Antique pearl broach.
Instead of a belt, I wrapped ‘Bling’ around my waist, held together with my broach. ‘Bling’ also used on the center pieces at the event!
Affordable outfits can be created for events!
Once I was invited to the Denim & Dimonds Event I immediately started by outfit wheel.
I went to the Wear House and bought this fab skirt for $25!! I hit the Victoria Secret sale’s rack and found the bodysuit for $17. I knew I needed to cover up, so I dug out my oldie but goodie DKNY jean jacket. I picked up the peace clutch at Fashioneta for $30. My shoes came from Macy’s for $76. I piled on jewelry I already had and placed eye lashes on and painted my own nails. Makeup from Making Faces and hair compliments of Salon Sabeha. At the event, photos were taken by The Chick Who Clicks. Thank you for your wonderful support.
I’m attending a fund raising event called “Denim & Diamonds” this Saturday. The cause is to to support, Jaden’s Ladder a non-profit organization that helps abused women in the area not only with shelter but an entire support system that enables long term guidance and self-reliance.
It is in the evening and there will be dinner and a silent auction. I always love wearing something a tad more formal or dressy. I didn’t want to just wear a dress and add diamond necklaces, and I love a good challenge when it comes to dressing up. I picked up this raw silk skirt that has a lot of charm and I’ve let my imagination run wild from there!
Since the raw silk is silvery-gray I knew I had to figure out how to add some bling to the waist area.
I picked up this band of diamond-like 2 yard “Bling” at a local craft store.
The skirt is long and the best way for me to balance it’s length is to wear a tight cami. In this case, it’s from Vicki Secret’s so it’s bit skimpy than I’m comfortable with (COLD).
The rhinestones and cami are goldish so I picked up some diamond bling to add.
I used tweezers and jewel glue and added the diamonds throughout the other stones for contrast.
I’m wearing a nude shoe without bling as the skirt is long and has a slight poof at the base.
Piling up the necklaces to cover up!
In order to keep myself warm from my skimpy lace cami, you guessed it~ a denim jacket!
