Style finder 2

Step two to finding your own style. Closet clean out.

Is your closet packed? I go through times when my closet is swallowing me up and I can’t stand it anymore. That’s when I take a step back and start the purging process. Going through everything all at once is too big of a task for me, so I purge often.

The second step to finding your style is, ‘only wear and keep items that you love’. Words that I’ve heard Marie Kondo say over and over! There are several reasons you may love an item.

We make priceless memories wearing our clothing and have attachments to where they came from. Clothing helps to enhance our lives and we can become attached to them. I do love some items more than others and find myself wearing the same things over and over. Sometimes 2/3 of my clothes are ignored. This is definitely due to the season we’re in and activities I’m doing.

There are some exceptions to the rule ‘keep what you love’. If you have something that you’ve had forever, that doesn’t mean you should keep it. Think about if you’re still using it and if not, why not? Also, why are you attached to it? For example, I had a leather skirt that I used to wear in High School and I loved it because it was pretty, it cost me a lot of buy at the time and I have great memories wearing it. But it no longer fits and I’m never going to wear it again. I parted with it, even though I loved it.

All your clothing should fit you. Yes, try everything on only keep items that flatter your body. I just tried on all my shorts and was upset that a pair of shorts I bought two years ago didn’t flatter me anymore. Our bodies are always changing and what we think might still look good, often doesn’t. Don’t beat yourself up over it, just let it go and continue to focus on your task.

If your item doesn’t fit and you still love it the big question I ask myself is, “if something happened to me, would my family want this”? Pretty telling that my answer is usually, no. It’s gotta go. No worries because you will be left with plenty of items that fit and flatter you!

The idea of having a closet full of items you love is about wearing your clothing with confidence. If your clothes flatter your body and you love them, then you’ll love making great outfits everyday.

Remember Step 1 to finding your style is, ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’. By purging your clothing and only keeping what you love, you’ll wear outfits with confidence, feel beautiful and be yourself.

As daunting as it may seem, get busy and purge, purge, purge. You’ll be surprised at how good you’ll feel!

It’s All In The Details

When I do anything, and I mean any thing, I think about all the details.  Honestly, it’s how I function in my life.  From my house, to planning a party, working with clients, and especially what I wear, I do think about every tiny detail.  I’m in my head saying, ‘nope that’s not right’ or ‘oh that’s it’, ‘ok now that changes this’…so everything becomes a process.

What I know is that I’m really good at taking into account all the details.  I don’t look at most rooms as being ‘done’ as our styles are constantly changing and evolving.  I do the same process with my outfits.  I don’t usually wear the same outfit in the same way.  I like to mix it up to stay on trend, for fun and fitting into the occasion.

Here is my example of taking ‘the details’ into account.

A Denim & Diamond Fundraiser

Layered sparkly necklaces

Silver skirt becomes a neutral

Nude heels to elongate

Top had embellishments but more for me!

Made my own belt and held together with a pin

Hair needed sparkle as well

DIY gold nails

My brightest clutch

DKNY denim topped off the look

This outfit was a big success at the event and I got a lot of attention for taking some chances and paying attention to the details.

I promise you if you pay attention and take time with how you’re wearing clothing and go the extra mile with your accessories and hair, you’ll look fabulous and enjoy yourself so much more!!  Go ahead, what are you waiting for, start working it girl!

Spring Layers

Spring has arrived and I love the lighter layers paired with open toed shoes and light colors.  It’s all so refreshing, careless and cool.  Stripes never looked so good with this seasons hottest shoe, a sporty sneaker.  Matchy matchy is out- add a shoe with color for that added interest.  Dig out those shorts as they go with everything from dressy to tomboy casual.  The key is the balance of the outfit.  If you have baggy shorts then wear a tighter tank with a loose white blouse button up and eye catching sandals.  We all know spring temps are unpredictable so go with lighter layers that you can wrap around your waist or shoulders.  Don’t forget to lighten your make up and hair can be more casual and fun!

Now this is a garden display like none other!

Sneaker Ball

Attending fundraisers is always a pleasure.  I really enjoy supporting local causes and especially when they benefit children.  There is nothing more heartwarming than knowing you can do something to make a difference in a child’s life.

The Sneaker Ball was a benefit to raise money for Jaden’s Ladder and their “Ballers to Scholars” Program.  This ball took place at the beautiful Empire Restaurant & Lounge in Boston.

This time of the year we have plenty of snow and temperatures ranging in the 40’s and lower in the evening.  So deciding what to wear wasn’t hard, but keeping warm was!!  You know me, I’ll practically wear anything for fashion, so I wore my shorts!

When wearing sneakers I don’t normally think of dresses, but plenty of ladies rocked this look.  I like to be sporty when I can, so shorts and a tank worked perfectly with my wedge sneakers!
