Fall Style

Fall is when we pile on the layers.  When shopping for Fall clothing,  take into account your Basics and the Trends.  Basics are those staples that you already own: jeans, leggings, sweaters, scarves, button downs, boots and coats.  Trends are items that make your basics more specific: what kind of cuts, and popular colors & fabrics found on the runway.  Some items are timeless and will never change, the classics:  black leggings, jean shirts, trench coats, white button downs, ballerina flats and boots.  Rule of thumb, stick with the basics, always have the classics and add a couple trendy items.  Most trends come around sooner or later, so if you buy an expensive trendy item, hold on to it!

How to Find Your Style

e8e324dbfddb195cd76d1f9757b7c5c1

Our personal style is always changing and hopefully evolving, but if you feel like you don’t know what our style is, what to wear, what looks goods, then you’re normal!

The first thing I do when working with any client is ask questions.  What do you want to look like?  Where are you shopping now?  Once those questions are discussed I’ll have a good idea of what your “style image” is.  Next, it’s time to go through all clothing and accessories.  This is how to determine what is working for your body and towards your “style image” goal.

From there it’s easy to create a check list of items to buy.  The next step is the actual shopping.  Lastly, I coach my clients on how to put their outfits together.

Finding your style like everything else is a process.  My job is to make the process easy, manageable and fun!

Working together normally takes two or three, 2 hour sessions to accomplish the task of ‘finding your style’.  My current “Finding Your Style” session is going for $200 (normally $300).  This is a limited special.  To book your session, e-mail me at d.jacobsohn@zoho.com !

Shoot your look before you decide

When it comes to any outfit that I put together I always make sure that it’s working for me, but when it comes to getting ‘dressed up’ I snap a photo first.  If you take a photo it will show if the clothing is accentuating or exaggerating your flaws.  A photo can reveal if the length is flattering, or if the color is too much for your skin.  Make sure to try on various accessories to see how they work or don’t with your outfit.  Remember accessories can make or break an outfit as its the icing on the cake.

I liked how this dress fell on by body.  I added a long pearl necklace doubled up or could have gone with a simple pendant necklace.

IMG_3668

If the skirt was a bit shorter this would have looked a bit more flattering, but too business looking for the event I was attending.

IMG_3667

I tried to skip the jacket and go for a vest to show a little skin.

  IMG_3665

I put on a lace Ralph Lauren blouse that was pretty with the lace skirt.  The shoes and necklace added a little more glam to the entire look.

IMG_3662

The Burberry lace skirt came with this lace camisole but the top didn’t add any shape to my body.  I decided to go with the first white outfit.

This process takes a lot of time, but you can see how creative you can get with just a few pieces.  I like looking at how the clothes look on the camera as it gives me an idea of what other people see.  Planning what your going to wear is key to looking your best.  Don’t just stop at ‘buying the outfit’ but go all the way with experimenting with your shoes, handbags and jewelry.

My new Office

This fall i completely overhauled my office space.  everything was removed, room repainted and bought all new items.  now i have a space that reflects my style & inspires me to be creative!

Sneaker Ball

Attending fundraisers is always a pleasure.  I really enjoy supporting local causes and especially when they benefit children.  There is nothing more heartwarming than knowing you can do something to make a difference in a child’s life.

The Sneaker Ball was a benefit to raise money for Jaden’s Ladder and their “Ballers to Scholars” Program.  This ball took place at the beautiful Empire Restaurant & Lounge in Boston.

This time of the year we have plenty of snow and temperatures ranging in the 40’s and lower in the evening.  So deciding what to wear wasn’t hard, but keeping warm was!!  You know me, I’ll practically wear anything for fashion, so I wore my shorts!

When wearing sneakers I don’t normally think of dresses, but plenty of ladies rocked this look.  I like to be sporty when I can, so shorts and a tank worked perfectly with my wedge sneakers!

The evening was a huge success!  The event was well attended, in the chic’s place, gorgeous food, great dj, stunning decor and us in our sneakers!

Thank You Gifts

Give a gift that counts.  It should be thoughtful, pretty and make sense.  Think about the person you are giving the gift to and ask yourself if, ‘they would like and appreciate it’, if not then go to plan B.  When I give teacher/staff gifts I want to say within a maximum budge of $5.  We do go in on a ‘class gift’ for the regular teachers, but I like to give to the supporting staff and principals.  I start thinking about gift a month before school ends.  That way I give myself enough time to shop on a budget.

We tried planting Peppermint seeds, but they didn’t germinate in time, but still made a really fun gift to give.  I found these pops just as they are at “The Christmas Tree Shop” for $3.99.  I wrote “thank you” myself, added tissue &  used a close pin for the tea bag.

DSC_0243

Colorful tissue adds interested to the gift.

DSC_0252

I like to use baskets to deliver gifts with the boys in school.

DSC_0248

I found they great peanut shaped ‘Inspire’ dishes at Micheal’s for $1.99.

IMG_4460

Collect all your items then figure out the best ways to put everything together.  I like the give to be on display and not in a gift bag.  Gift bags are expensive and I’ve found you don’t need them if you have tissue paper and ribbon!

DSC_0247

I picked this canister up at Micheal’s for $2.99, added Red Sox peanuts for $1.99 and wrote “thanks for being our Healthy Nut”.  This was for the Gym teacher!

DSC_0246

I had already had tissue paper, “thank you” stickers and ribbon on hand, making this an easy gift to put together.

IMG_4467

I picked up some of these bath goods at the local grocery store for $1.99 and the soap was on clearance at Micheal’s for $1.00.

IMG_4463

I used tissue, ribbon and a sticker to put the gift together.

IMG_4464

On some I cut out paper and used double stick tape to attach to the ribbon.

Just use what you have!

Be creative!

Inside Out

I believe beauty starts on the inside.  Taking care of myself is very important to me and I know you eventually see the benefits on the outside.  Not only do I exercise, drink plenty of water and sleep well, I practice meditation and sometimes cleanse by body.  I know it seems a bit much, but with everything we put our bodies I find it to be a meaningful exercise.  The benefits of cleansing can be found on several sites, but here are some that I found to be helpful,  Dr. Oz and Ezine Articles.

A year ago, I started focusing on my skin and wash my face every night and morning and pay close attention to wearing sunscreen.  I’ve always worked out a couple day’s a week and would try to squeeze in a walk here an there, but something switched in me and I decided it was time to go for it and in October I started working out 5 days a week and on the other days make sure to get a walk in.  It’s been 9 months and am hooked.

The more you work on your body the better you eat!  I’m happy with what I’m eating but am ready to detox my body.  It is hard, but I really want to do it.  I love the mental challenge and interested to see what happens with my body.

I don’t normally share photos of my body, but for this purpose, I think it’s helpful to see the before and after photos.  I’ll journal and post my process of the next 5 days of my Juice Cleanse.  Oh and I know, I’m skinny and I don’t need to loose weight, that’s not what this is about.  It’s more about the benefits of the cleanse and it just so happens that loosing weight is a side affect, but for me I’m going to continue working out and having SO many veggies that I’ll be getting everything I need!  ~XX
