Etsy is such a mecca of talented artisans who construct quality handcrafted goods. I of course am drawn to the home items! Here are some of the top goods any one would be proud to display in their home.
If you have one of these cheap folding screens and want to upcycle it, why not make it into a custom headboard! It’s easy and you can do just about anything your heart desires.
Step 1: Spray Paint~ I used a more expensive paint to avoid having to spay so many times.
Tip: Take your time when you spray paint, it’s best to do in light layers.
Step 2: Add metal hardware on back of screen to avoid the screen to fold. Then Hang on the wall behind your bed. Either drill a hole through the wood or add hardware on the back.
Tip: Resist adding your decor to the screen, as this is large and awkward to hang and you don’t want your hard work to get ruined.
Step 3: Collect and create the decor you want to add to your screen. Use Velcro to affix items to your board.
Tip: Don’t be afraid to add a few things to start then add over time, as this is a large space!
I made my own Fishing sign by hot gluing store bought pebbles onto letters! Use shells or seaglass as well! The Bait bag is actually an old clothes hanging pin bag! I hand painted the words and picked up vintage wooden fishing hooks to add to the bag.
My son collected stickers, shells, and driftwood and I picked up the signs, handmade fishing pole and the clothes pin bag from a yard sale, and the Pottery Barn pin board shark
I think if using natural items from nature like recycling.
I come from Alaska and everyone hunts, not for sport but for food. If you hunt, then why not use the bones…. not for everyone, but I find them to be beautiful.
Marble is one of my fav’s, but it is hard to take care of, but as a back splash- clever!
I really love drift wood and reclaimed barn wood. I love how the wood was used to make a beautiful headboard.
Fur or animal skins, hopefully from sustainable hunting and not sport or faux!
I love how this deck was built around and with the trees. No need to cut them down!

Thinking about the movie, “2001 Space Odyssey”, I can’t help but think of modern rooms….but our 21 century is so different than the movie portrayed, since most of us still want to display our collectables, art, and inherited items. I created this board by merging space odyssey with our 2012 lifestyles. Why not go with a bright kitchen island…surely nobody else will have one like yours. To bring a modern island back down, I mixed earthy elements such as wood and floral decor. I brought in turquoise to compliment the neon yellow. Gold and silver lighting and accessories works in any home style, think of these two colors as neutrals. No matter what your style is you can’t go wrong with modern art. I say, bigger is better. Don’t forget to add something living in your space, even if it’s fresh cut flowers from your yard. Time to take a ride to the moon, oh only in the movies.
